Just how old is North & South of the River?

Hello Wire!

I haven't posted in a while, but just recently, I was listening
to my copy of the Salome tapes (Achtung rehearsals) and
I noticed something that I've never seen mentioned before.
That is, that an early version of North & South Of The River
is definitely on here and it's actually very recognizable. The
infamous Salome Liner Notes refer to this song as "Take Today",
which appears in two version. The first one is an instrumental
version (with the horns and everything) and the second is the
same thing, but with some really nasty vocals, obviously not
even close to being finished. The music, however, is totally there.
Now, these tapes were done in what, 1990? When was the
original version of this song with Christy Moore released?

SO CRUEL,
Patrick
