Personally, I think flames are what keeps Wire alive. Disagreement is
always healthy. They lead us to an open mind to see why people are
disagreeing, thus, maybe we can see some validity in their points even
if we don't like it.

Many didn't like a greatest hits release and they had very valid
points on why U2 shouldn't release one. All discussions should have
disagreement and the fact that this is a public mailing list should
make it open to flames. If we have a discussion with everyone in
conformity, there will be no room for change or growth.

This is why Wire is the best mailing ist. It is characterized by
democracy and freedom of expression as compared to otehr "regulated"
mailing lists that provide prior restraint ("you can't post this"
rules) and subsequent punishment (banishment if you post a "dumb U2
newbie" question).
