hello wirelings, i was wondering if any others were wondering about the word
"joy", or how U2 and Brian Eno interpret the word "joy"? I have a very
strong feeling that their next album is going to be absolutely amazing, no new
news there, afterall all their albums are. But, this will be even more
amazing in regards to where U2 will push the musical envelope. I have tried
to think of past songs that might be interpreted as "joy", or joyous. All i
could think of was "trip through your wires" (makes me want to yell yahoo, and
i am not a redneck), "everlasting love" (very positive song, although a
cover), and I can't really think of others. For the most part U2's music is
uplifting, but more in a spiritual way, then just to call their songs joyous.
Most of their songs, though uplifting, are also very dark.

U2 have always asked questions and provided answers, songs that make you
think, or act! To me an album that reflected "joy" would be very simple in
nature, lyrically that is. But, I think the music would be just absolutely
amazing, I look for Edge to just completely blow our minds to pieces. And I
look for Larry to innovate, hopefully more than the Pop album, I harken back
to "bullet the blue sky" - "Acrobat" - "Pride", those type of songs where he
just wails without the use of added drum tracks etc...And Adam will be steady
as always, providing the groove and being influenced by what Edge and Larry
create. But, i think Bono's lyrics wont be as sophisticated, I think this
album will be more musically moving than lyrically inspiring! Anyway, tell me
what you think, or what songs might be interpreted as joy?
