Just HAD to write about this! :)
My best friend does not like U2 and he really has a problem with Bono in
particular. LOL We have had MANY discussions on U2 are rock-n-roll demigods
Vs. U2 music is shit. He tends to make some valid points and once in a
while ;) he throws out some stupid Bono bashing statement. He knows I
really really love U2! He can't stand my adoration of them. Does this make
him a bad person? Some of you would say "Hell yes! He's an ignorant
ass-hole that hasn't seen the light." I say "No, he is a very intelligent
and good man whose musical appreciation does not include U2." I must say
that we have had a heated argument or two. I have been pissed as all get out
at some of his statements; but all in all I have come away from these
discussions with a better knowledge of why I dig U2 so much.
My best friend hates U2 and you know what he does? :) When I go to his
house for friendly get togethers, he actually puts a U2 CD into the stereo,
just for me. He owns a copy of the Joshua Tree. He has admitted to liking
the song Lemon. He has compared Radiohead to U2 and he really likes
Radiohead! Maybe you are thinking what I have thought a million times.
"This guy is a closet U2 fan!" I doubt it. I have to keep in mind that
he's 40 when he makes comments like "Look at Bono trying to be important by
associating himself with truly important people like Povoratti, Patti Smith
and Lou Reed." I get really irked, but his musical heroes are The Velvet
Underground and David Bowie among others. Needless to say it irks him when
I compare his musical interests to that of U2's! heheheh then he just says
"Well they should like them, they're the greats!"
My best friend hates my adoration of U2. He thinks I'm completely
obsessed with Bono! For my birthday he gave me.... the ONE single, the
HMTMKMKM single, the FLY single and the Unforgettable Fire video! A month
later, for Christmas, what does he do??!!!
He goes crazy on ebay and gets me........... an authentically certified
AUTOGRAPHED BY ALL FOUR MEMBERS OF U2 popmart tee shirt! Then he asks me "Do
you like it, Puddin'?" hahahahah My best friend is not a U2 fan. He puts
their music down. He makes comments that get me all fired up and he is an
avid Bono basher! How do I deal with this? I'm in love with him, so I over
look it??? Not a chance! You see, he respects my opinion and I respect
his. We agree to disagree. Simple as that. So the next time you look at a
U2 hate-page remember that everyone is entitled to their opinion and to the
right of expressing it. Just because someone's opinion is U2 sucks, it
doesn't make it any less relevant because you don't agree. Personally I
think that the U2 SUCKS pages are just as ridiculous as the BONO IS GOD
pages! That's just my opinion. I don't expect you to agree but I also
don't expect you to slander or harass me because you don't. I'm open to
your opinion if you want to share it but blatant malicious rudeness hurts us
all. I urge us all to check out motives when we post "flames". Are we
giving an opinion or an emotional backlash at something that made us feel
defensive?
