I feel like I am stooping to this guy's level in responding, but I figure
I'll keep it intelligent instead of saying bulshit bullshit bullshit
bullshit......

First off, the e-mail addy:

>From: Poptican <[email protected]>
>Subject: The End Of The World

>Hello Wire,

>I have been a subscriber for several years now, but I never felt it
>neccessary to post anything until now. I don't know exactly how to
>explain this, but here goes.

I would request of Joel the administrator of Wire to check if this is indeed
true that Poptician has been on even for a week as a subscriber. That would
prove it all just on this point alone.

>My wife works for PolyGram Records in their marketing department and
>last night she came home with a document in her hand which she handed
>to me. I read it
>through and afterwards sat down to transribe what the memo said:

Well, this seems possibly accurate in the fact that his wife needs a job
because this guy sits at home, unemployed and thinking of malicious ways to
annoy perople on Wire and other listservers. Anyway, at first, I was dumb
enough to generally buy what was in the memo until I read this:

> Bono wishes to pursue acting in independent films as
>well as spending more time with his family. After the "fantastic
>failure" of Pop-Mart Clayton feels that touring has become too much of
>a strain and wants to relax and enjoy the Dublin nightlife while he is
"still young".

I mean, come on! Bono is tentatively in Billion (Million?) Dollar Hotel,
which has no official release date and now he's going into acting?! And the
fantastic failure of Popmart is beyond laughter. The BEST that can be said
is that sales were less than they expected, yet it was one of the biggest
grossing tours of all time.

I am willing to buy that at some point The End will come and U2 may very
well break up. But these reasons are not only frivolous and childish, but
unfounded!!!

okay, now the biggest joke of them all:

>Bono has prepared a statement renouncing the Achtung Baby-Zooropa-Pop
>era and admitting that U2 erred greatly when they abandoned the
>honesty and openess
>that was the trademark of the 80's U2. Bono blames the critics'
>brutual attack on 1988's Rattle And Hum for his entire "loaded" and
>"flashy" attitude in the 90's. In
>addition he admits that The Joshua Tree is indeed U2's finest album
>and that is why they chose it for re-release before the break up.

Let's just say that this memo were true (snicker...snort). My immediate
reaction would be that a bunch ignorant music critics from the media has
kidnapped him and held him at gunpoint to admit that it was all his fault.
PEOPLE OF WIRE! LET'S SAVE BONO AND THE GANG FROM THIS EVIL BAND OF
MARAUDING MUSICALLY CHALLENGED LOVERS OF THE SPICE GIRLS!!!!

> My wife is 100% sure that
>what we read is true and that U2 is going, going and will soon be
>gone. Man this is some serious stuff. I especially can't stomach this
>stuff about the 90's U2 being inferior to the 80's U2 because I prefer
>the New U2 over the old one. Wow.

There he goes again with his wife calling the shots since he doesn't seem to
be able to formulate anything. Nice touch trying to sound heart broken.

Anyway, I am sure that my post is in the midst of several discounting this
guy and I apologize. It is quite funny actually. The thing is that it is
likely that this person IS someone who actually subscribes to Wire and just
came in under another name just to see what happens. I find that immature
and mean. And I know that there are enough obsessive people here to believe
it and get freaked out.

Shalom,

Rob Knetsch
