Hiya Dave & Wire,

I know from living there that there are plenty of Dubliners who would
not take kindly to the following comment that I'm going make - but so
be it. I love Dublin second only to my own hometown (Chicago) -- and
I've been all over the world to compare...

The truth is, the most famous thing that is most closely associated
with -Dublin- *is* U2. Paris has the Eiffel Tower, New York the
Empire State Building, London Big Ben, etc. Granted U2 is not a
physical landmark, but the most closely associated thing with Chicago
used to be gangsters and now thankfully it's Michael Jordan and the
Bulls. Same concept.

William Daley, who is one of the members of Clinton's cabinet
("ministry"), is from Chicago - he is the brother to our current
mayor and son of someone who was our mayor for 30 yrs before dying in
office. He said the other day that since taking his post in
Clinton's cabinet he has been to 35 countries and he's still winning
a running bet with his staff that they would not be in any country
for more than an hour that someone doesn't't bring up the Bulls to
him, knowing he was from Chicago. So far he's 35 for 35.

So, it's the same concept with U2 and Dublin, for better or worse.
Personally, I'd be brimming with pride about the whole thing - just
as I've been with the Bulls in the 1990s.

In The Name Of Love, Patty
