It is the ugliest form of conduct to call people names and treat them with
open contempt. And it is even uglier to revel in it and take pleasure from
it.
If you believe in any of the lyrics you have heard Bono sing over the last
twenty years, then you'll realize how unfair and petty you have been.
I dare say he would find it disgraceful.
Respect, people. That's what its all about. We don't have to love each
other (and perhaps we can't), BUT WE CAN AT LEAST HAVE A LITTLE RESPECT.
Assume, for instance, that people are just expressing their opinions,
honestly and openly, and then maybe you'll find it easier to respond
positively, with phrases like "You must be mistaken", or "I must have
misunderstood".
Call me old fashioned if you like... but do it nicely.
