Last year I decided to take a non credit course on Ireland...it was for 2
months...there were approx. 8 people in the class ...all of whom had either
been to Ireland or were planning trips....not once during the whole class
was U2 mentioned....we read books...discussed the geography...watched
videos...talked about culture and history.... I really enjoyed the
class.... ..its very easy to get involved with the U2dublin ..believe me I
know! ..some had heard of u2...but not all...I don't think half of the
class had heard of them...the main reason they were interested in
Ireland....they had relatives/ancestors there...they were interested in the
land and the people .. not the objects and buildings....
Personally....I enjoy learning about my background as an american..that
has a few titles in front of it..there's nothing wrong knowing the
struggles that members of your family had to go through just to get to the
point where we are today....it has made me the person that I am....I am
proud of that...it makes my families proud that I am willing to carry on
some of the traditions that have been passed down from the "old countries."
Whether it be recipes for a special Italian sauce....a song that was sung
in the streets of Dublin.....or a few spoken words in Scottish Gaelic.....I
plan on passing it on to my children.
