Wanted: One assistant to help me with the organization of the 4th Annual
U2 Mailing List Amnesty International Fundraiser. Here's the pertinent info-

 Title: Auction Assistant

Duties: Field auction item donation offers and screen items through
email; announce auctions publicly on WIRE and other U2 mailing lists; take
bids on auction items and notify people when they are outbid to help drive
the bids higher, or register items with the (reliable) auction software of
your choice; notify me and the high bidders at auctions' end; anything else
auction-related.

What you will *not* be doing: handling money. Once you have a high
bidder, you will tell me, I will take it from there and do the money part.

Necessary qualities: This person must be reliable, patient, courteous,
ambitious, willing to work VERY hard, and must preferably be a huge Amnesty
International fan. They must communicate well. I'm looking for someone who
will be able and willing to put this auction above all else in their life
for the deemed time period. If you can't spend nearly all your free time
doing this, you probably are not the person I am looking for.(In fact, if
you can spend some of your employer's time doing this too, without getting
fired, even better!) Also, you must have an extremely reliable Net
connection/email software package. (Don't want to be losing those bids,
now!) We raised over $700.00US with the auctions alone last year, and I
hope we will raise even more through auctions this year! So, this position
has some responsibility.

Deemed time period: Roughly 2 months (July-August) Do you go away on
vacation at any time during these months? If so, DO NOT email me to
volunteer for this job. Are you unable to finish what you start? If so, DO
NOT email me to volunteer for this job. Is organization not your strong
point? If so, DO NOT email me to volunteer for this job. You get the idea.
This must be your first priority.

Salary - The reward of knowing you are working for one of the world's most
important causes! :-)

This is the first time I am actively seeking help for a fundraiser. Last
year, I worked the hardest I have ever worked in my life, harder than I
ever want to work again. Last year's auction accounted for nearly half of
the money we donated to Amnesty International, so I can't very well say
that we aren't doing it again. But I can't do it all again, I need help.

Questions? Ask! I expect to take a while to find someone, so by all
means, take some time to think about it if you like. I will post this
again in a few months.

 Thanks,

 Heidi

PS - as I read this over, I realize that there may be very little that
seems attractive about this job offer. But doing this is the *most*
rewarding thing - you won't believe the rush you'll get from it!! :-) What
else do you think keeps ME doing this every year!? :-) After all, I have
repeatedly answered a very similar offer myself...
