La Bamba

It's Saturday night and being under 21 and having just clobbered my
friend at three games of chess...we had run out of creative ideas of
what we should do. We get real excited about watching that cheesy
"Newlywed Game," and we were hoping it ran on the weekends (it doesn't
for future reference)..and as we're channel surfing we run into "La
Bamba".

What's my point? Well, I really don't know. Even though I've seen it
like 26 times, we unanimously agree to be emotionally drained by the
end of the evening and sit through it. And, I noticed something for
the first time. Right after Valens and Holly die in the plane accident
and the radio announcer interrupts the song to announce their death -
this is where Ritchie's mom starts yelling "No, No..."- the radio
announcer goes sadistic and says creepily something to the effect of,
"So, here's a little tune for the recently dead..." and just jumps
right back into the swing of things. It was really out of place. So
what's my point...I DON'T KNOW.

It's just a shitty way to find out someone in your family died, that's
all. I mean, somebody could have called them...maybe they did. I won't
mention names...because I don't want to think such thought...but I
hope I don't learn of any post-mortem news from an insensitive radio
announcer. Which leads me to recall this dream where Bono dies
tragically, and I become devastated..and then later that day I find
Ali selling lingerie...but I'm rapidly trying to forget that dream.
