Matt asked:

>they just put the 80s to rest?

I'd be disappointed if they gave a blanket announcement like that because
it would eliminate the possibility of juxtaposing songs like I Will Follow
and Mofo that have the same theme but are separated by time and musical
style. On an artistic level I think it would be a pity to close off those
possibilities. And as much as I'd be happy never to hear New Year's Day
live again, it's obviously the perfect song for a New Year's Eve gig.
Streets is also to me one of the all time great live songs from any band,
and a song that has grown and evolved. I didn't think they'd ever find a
better place for it in a set other than as an opener, and yet they proved
me wrong on PopMart - the segue from Please to Streets was one of the
highlights of the show.

It wouldn't bother me in the least if U2 announced that a tour was to
contain very few songs pre-Achtung Baby, I'd just be disappointed if they
closed themselves completely to the possibilities of the older material.
Sunday Bloody Sunday found new life, a new format, a new context and a new
singer in Sarajevo. Mothers of the Disappeared found its place on the
South American leg of the PopMart tour. I'd like to think that the quality
of U2's material is so great that these things will continue to happen in
the future.
