Actually John I think it is you who has missed my point. I NEVER said
U2 was original (you can check all my postings on this subject)with
their antics but neither was Bowie or the Mephisto movie you are
referring to. Even the Bible derived images of the evil one from
previous centuries. We live in a derivative society where there is no
originality but everything is just reinvention and I think U2 does a
great job of reinventing (as you eloquently stated in your post).

 What I disagree strongly about Rob is that he misses the point when
he takes it to the extreme and makes the tone of his email sound as if
Bono is some plagiarist copycat without any "original" ideas of his
own. In my opinion, all artists are chameleons otherwise they would
not survive in the industry. No one can fly on their own, they have to
learn how to fly and that is where they look into the past...
