                Hi U2 lovers !

First, the U2 content : according to the Edge interview in Guitar
World Jan 99 (read it online), Bono is now in Paris writing lyrics (for the
new album ?). Sorry, i failed to find him. I've not so much time and Paris
is a big town, you know....:-D

I try to make it short, so here are some comments about messages
from Stephen, <[email protected]> and Intergalactic Bono about US bombings.

In your mind, why didn't almost all countries support the US war
against Saddam Hussein ? Remember many countries support USA in 91. Simply
because in 91, Iraq was the agressor and in 98 USA are the agressor. Can
someone amongst the US war's supporters explain to me how effective are the
past measures taken by the democracies to overthrow S. Hussein ? Do you
really think the embargo was really usefull in this aim ? It's great
democratic countries take care of what happens in dictatorship. But the
problem is violence never resolve any conflict of this type. And i think
you're (the supporters) are clever enough to know that the US government
didn't decide these attacks for protecting the world from dictators but
because they had political and/or economical interests in doing this. Just
think about Pinochet US government/CIA gave the power in 73 to understand
how much the US politicians take care of democracy in the world. And why not
bombing Israel for not respecting their agreements towards Palestine if
violence is a good solution ? I know it's not the same problem but in both
cases, the agreements were not respected. And it would be insane too. The
problem now is that Saddam Hussein is considered as a victim of US
"imperialism" by the other (arab at least) nations, so it's more difficult
now to throw him out of the power. This useless (IMO) violence leads to the
oppositive effect of the wished effect. Thanks to US and British governments
for doing this [insert sarcasm here for those who don't understand what i
mean]. In fact, S. Hussein provoked USA because he knew he would win this
confrontation. Are the US politicians total idiots to fall into this trap ?
And negociations and diplomats exist to avoid killing civilians.

And for those like Stephen who seem not to know all the targets of
US bombings, some of them were hospitals and even a maternity ! Sure bombing
hospitals is useful to save democracy [insert sarcasm again].

About the war in ex-Yugoslavia, remember some of the european
countries wanted to do something at the beginning in 92 but the others just
waited until US did something for stopping this war. Notice this war is
still not ended now.

PS: don't get me wrong, i don't support any dictator but sometimes
US politicians act like total idiots ! And i'm very conscious US people
didn't always agree with their government. But i wonder how much the medias
try to manipulate the public opinion.

        In the name of love

                                                Karine
