i think this has to refer to the first letter from Paul to the people of
Corinth, ch 2 v 13:
" Meanwhile, these three remain: faith hope and love, and the greatest of
these is love "
and yet bono seems to doubt that only these three remain when he looks at
the world around him - this would support the theory i read here about the
song being a plea for the second coming.
