I've been listening to this debate a little too long now. Why does
everyone keep comparing The Joshua Tree tour to Popmart??? Let me give
you a quote from Bono in an interview he did on CBS this past
November..."All the stage, the lemon, the screen, the arch, that's the
fun of it and the funk of it, but it's not the soul of it. People were
talking about how the screen wasn't working and it's breaking
down...well, our feeling is, if the songs didn't make you happy......we
didn't want you their anyways." It's all about the music, yes, but U2
wanted to make the greatest show on earth with all the special effects,
and Bono also said "I've loved every second of this whole tour, even
when we didn't know what we were doing...By the time we got to New York
we were on fire, and haven't stopped since." They play better than
they've ever played too. We should stop arguing, we're all fucking u2
fans! Let's talk about different Cd's and what songs mean to us, and
live experiences that kinda stuff, not fucking wars over which tour was
the best. STAY CLOSE TO THE SONGS, AND THEY'LL TELL YOU WHAT TO DO.

"ALL THE STAGE, THE LEMON, THE SCREEN, THE ARCH, THAT'S THE FUN OF IT
AND THE FUNK OF IT, BUT IT'S NOT THE SOUL OF IT. PEOPLE WERE TALKING
ABOUT HOW THE SCREEN WASN'T WORKING AND IT'S BREAKING DOWN...WELL, OUR
FEELING IS, IF THE SONGS DIDN'T MAKE YOU HAPPY...WE DIDN'T WANT YOU
THEIR ANYWAYS."-BONO, CBS THIS MORNING, NOVEMBER '97...amen
