To answer your qurestion rob...no. Infact this theme has what I feel is the
desired
effect on me...it's mirroring it, and asking the ones listening to look at it
in THEIR own life. The problem of pride, selfishness, ego and greed are
things that don't only belong to U2 and other rich and well known..but to us
as well. If I wanted to listen to music made by "pure" musicians I
would...but that music only sees my good side, and encourages me to ignore my
faults and problems.(ie --christian rock..ive tried it..)
The thing I see in the "self indulgent" era of U2, is that it aknowledges
both good intentions and the not so pure ones that we all struggle with.
These struggles carry emotions and passions just as deep as the "purer"
mentality of early and mid era U2, and since the "self indulgent" U2 theme
identifies with these struggles...they make a connection with me, and evoke
emotion as I identify my own problems.
