it's not like them, but now it is

:::sigh:::

I have avoided this whole GH thing since I really thought it was just
one of those rumors that pop up (no pun) when crazy U2 fans don't have
enough to keep themselves occupied with. But now, it seems, it's true.
And it's not like U2 at all. After all their work to constantly change,
after all their defense of always moving forward, after very recent
quotes which denounce the greatest hits idea, it is a shock to me that
they are going through with this. It seems to me to undermine much of
what U2 have struggled to stand for as a band. I had always imagined
they would only make a GH release if they broke up or decided they were
too old to continue writing and touring. What's more, I fear that even
if U2 makes it officially known that they are doing this to get out of
their record contract, the public and/or press here in America will see
this as an admission that U2 have washed up after the supposed "failure"
of POP and the PopMart tour.

In essence, I don't just think that U2 are making a mistake because GH
albums tend to match up with bands no longer on the make. I think that
no matter how good U2's personal reasons are, they will undermine their
artistic integrity with these releases.

Pessimistic,

Sara
