Researching U2 fans

Hello all!

I am currently doing research for a uni assignment on U2, their fans and
the Internet (specifically, Wire). Anyway, this Greatest HIts debate has
fortitously (for my purposes anyway) arisen, and I have a few questions
that I'd like to ask -

First of all, I'd really like some of your thoughts on what constitutes a
fan - size of your U2 collection? willingness to camp out 3 days to see
them? just liking them a lot?

Also, how much of an effect do you think fans have on U2? too little?
should we matter more (most), or should the band do what they want
regardless of what the fans think? do you feel like they owe you anything
in return for your committment to them?

Finally, is it just the music or is it more than that? have the actions
and philosophy of U2 influenced you in other areas of your life? is there
anything U2 could do that would make you stop being a fan?

I know this is a lot of questions, but I would *really*, *really*
appreciate hearing anything anyone has to say about any of the things
I've asked here - just treat them as pointers. Rantings, ravings and
ramblings are all welcome - I need to know how you all feel about these
things!

Thanks, and I'm looking foward to hearing what you have to say, as U2
fans!

Gail

ps- for what it's worth, my opinion on this whole GH thing: I've
discovered that if your heroes happen to be humans, they're going to let
you down at some point... I'm disillusioned, but I still love U2...
