More Best of debate.

G'day,

I'm kinda thrilled and kind of disappointed about a U2 best of. I think
alot of people who didn't buy things like Zooropa and Pop will enivatably
buy it (which, I feel, is good.) I've heard the debates about 'this is the
thing U2 have stood against for 20 years' and I don't quite buy that. U2
have stood against racism, violence, poverty, nuclear sites, slavery etc. I
somehow think (in my humblest opinion) that preaching about how Best Of
compilations will one day ruin the world would have been high on their
priorities. U2 is more than a band in many senses. U2 is a business. A 50
million dollar deal to give people a retrospective of a great bands great
career sounds like a fine idea to me. I wish they didn't do it, but buy
that token, I doubt that they are aiming their entire market at us hardcore
fans. Perhaps the inclusion of the B-Side disc is a way of saying 'Look, we
know you didn't want us to do this, but we hope you like this..'. Maybe
they're just washing their hands completely of the past, and getting on with
the future, which is where I think they've always been anyway.

Comments, suggestions?

P.
