An open letter...

After all the debate over the Best Of CD, I felt I needed to say this.

I can't get angry at U2 for doing this. I love this band as I would my own
child. The music they've given me has been an influence in my life that I
cannot deny. It awakens me to the truth I want to deny but shouldn't. I got
out of an abusive relationship after hearing Stay(Faraway, So Close), woke up
to the horrors of the world and the fact that things can be changed (if only
for a little while), and recently ended another painful relationship as a
result of a passage of God Pt. 2. I'm not an overly obsessive fan that lives
off of them or anything, but their music helps you get through the day and
through life. It seems at times as though Bono's voice is the voice of your
soul and your conscience. I wish I could really express in words what this
band means to me, but suffice it to say that I'm not going to condemn them
until I hear the Best Of. I rather like the idea of having a couple of CDs
with my favorite songs on them; it'll be like walking down memory lane with an
old friend.

"And you can dream
So dream out loud
You know that your time is coming 'round
...don't let the bastards grind you down...
