Hey Wire! I just thought you might want to see a short paper I wrote on
U2! It's for my English class, and the popic was "What do I think makes
a hero?" I hope you like it. Please check out my web site for more
about me and U2 and e-mail me what you think!

You Can Keep This Suit of Lights

If you ask me, a hero is anyone who does what he or she believes is
right, even if it is not the popular (or sane) thing to do. Many of the
people I consider heroes have died because they had this trait. Some
are shot. Some are threatened. Some are tortured. But they all keep
going and just proclaim their message even louder. One person that comes
to mind is Paul "Bono" Hewson of the Irish rock group U2. U2 has
always stood for human right and the truth. This has caused them to be
considered strange and nave. They go out on huge tours and spread
their message of peace and understanding to all people in all nations,
be it Ireland, Sarajevo, Israel, or even the United States. On one
tour, U2 were scheduled to play a sold out show in the South. Before
the show, Bono received a death threat saying that if he sang the song
"Pride (In the Name of Love)", a tribute to martin Luther King, he would
be shot. He decided to sing it anyway and not give in to the threat.
They went onto the stage (unprotected) and delivered a full set. When
it came time for them to play "Pride", Bono stood in the center of the
stage as usual and delivered the song with his eyes closed, ready to
take a bullet for what he and the others believed in. At the end of the
song he opened his eyes to see Adam, the bassist who the media saw as a
reclusive freak, standing directly in front of him, ready to die for his
friend. It is a event like this that proves to me that just because
someone is not considered popular for his or her individual beliefs,
that does not make them any less a hero in my eyes.

Well, there it is. I hope you liked it! I did my best to get all the
facts straight. If anyone knows the full story, please mail it to me!
Thanks!
