Top Ten "underrated" U2 Songs

Hello again, Wire!

I like this thread that Chris Nemec has proposed! I think it could
also be called Top 10 "Personal Favorite" U2 Songs, i.e., songs that you
like a lot but for one reason or another never seemed to make as big a
splash as you anticipated. Here goes!

10) Hawkmoon 269 - a kick-ass song I wish I could have seen live (Does
anyone know if it ever was?)
9) Babyface - I think that this song was neglected because of the
company it kept (i.e., "Zooropa" before and "Numb" after; this puts this
song in the same class as "Do You Feel Loved", which also almost made
this list); a simple love song with perverse undertones
8) Surrender - The guitar in this song almost puts me in a trance! Why
doesn't it thrill other people as well?
7) Trip Through Your Wires - easily the most lighthearted track on The
Joshua Tree, and one of the tracks I look forward to hearing the most
6) Out of Control - This song just plain makes me happy! It has that
soaring bass sound that is so '80's! I feel like taking on the world
after hearing it!
5) The Playboy Mansion - I guess potential law suits kept this song off
the "singles" list. When I first listened to POP, I pegged this one to
have heavy airplay. I was wrong, but why?
4) Dirty Day - WOW! If you've seen the "Live in Sydney" video, no
futher explanation is necessary. This song introduced me to the poet
Charles Bukowski (you'll understand the last line of the song if you
look at the titles of this poet's collections).
3) God Part II - have they performed this live, and, if so, why wasn't
I invited? Another song I picked to have a strong radio presence, but
somehow missed
2) Gone - I think I looked forward to this song the most during
POPMart. Some songs are going to end up on people's lists because they
resonate with a moment in their lives (as Rashas now knows), and not
just because it's a good song. This is one of those songs.
And so is..........
1) Acrobat - Good God! I LIVED this song! (It wasn't fun.) As a matter
of fact, over the last 2 and a half years, I lived the entire "Achtung
Baby" album! It's weird to have an album be a soundtrack of your life!
Ironically, this was my least favorite song when I first listened to the
whole album - my goodness, how times change!

Thanks for the bandwidth!
