Wire,

Does anyone have any reactions to the first-week sales total of
the Best Of album? It's great news that U2 outsold Alanis in Canada, and
sadly, not a surprise that she beat them in the States. However, I think
I was expecting that they would be closer to her tally. According to the
report posted to Wire, Alanis sold 469,000 copies in the US, while U2 sold
237,000. Questions:

1) What do wirelings think of U2's total?

2) What is the media saying about it?

3) Was this better or worse than expected?

4) How does this compare to other Best Of albums' sales?

5) Is there any chance this report was mistaken?

- this is not me questioning Deseree ( who I think is brilliant and
invaluable here on Wire) but could JAM be wrong?

I'd love to hear some input....thanks!

Jon
