U2 vs. the USA

Oddly enough, a lot of people make a big deal about the Billboard
charts. It seems to be the only chart that matters. Yes, the USA
represents the biggest record consuming market but it's not the only
one. So far, it seems U2 is #1 in the rest of the world while Alanis
only hogs the US charts. The USA was the only place where Popmart had
half empty stadiums. Yet, it was only the USA that embraced Vanilla
Ice, MC Hammer, Hanson, Puff Daddy, and all other rap artists who
spell "to" as "2" and use letter Z instead of "s".

What I'm trying say is that it's no big deal that U2 isn't #1 in the
USA. Americans have a "different" and more "alternative" taste in
music. Even in the 80's, Europe had "Live Aid" and "Band Aid" that
included great artists like Big Country, Spandau Ballet, Sting, Paul
McCartney, U2, Duran Duran, George Michael, Bob Geldof, David Bowie,
and the like, the USA had their own "USA for Africa" with Michael
Jackson, Kenny Rogers, and Lionel Ritchie among others.

The USA seems to have a more poppy taste in music while Europe goes
for more progressive music. USA embraces Puff Daddy's "I'll Be
Missing You" while Europe would rather have The Police's "Every Breath
You Take." Tastes among cultures are different so it's really no big
deal if U2 didn't get the #1 in the USA. In another light, all U2
gave was previously released tracks while Alanis had to put up 17
brand new tracks.

Well, this is just another pointless post. Sorry for the wasted
space....

Cheers,

J
