Thanksgiving At The End of the World

I've been up since 5 this morning reading Bill Flanagan's "U2 at the

End of the World." (Holidays are a bit warlike in my house and I don't

like them so much. Reading about my favorite band puts me in a better

mood most days.) This is a great book. The chapters and the message

from the band about Sarejevo really put things into perspective about how

much I have to be thankful for. We need to realize all we are blessed with,

and help those less fortunate too. "We get to carry each other" and we

can start right in our own homes with our own families. Thanksgiving

holiday is good to emphasize this, but we need to do all this all year too.

For those of you interested, I'm referring mostly to pages 299-306. As

Flanagan puts it though, "There is nothing like having genocide shoved in

your face to ruin a crowd's partying mood." For all those celebrating,

happy Thanksgiving. And for all those who aren't, I'm thankful you exist.
