Hello Everyone,

I like the thread about what Wirelings have taken in interest in because
of U2. It made me think what I listen to, read, or whatever that I
probably wouldn't have if it wasn't for U2. So here is my list of
"things" I've taken interest in and enjoyed and some things that I
didn't like.

B.B. King and Elvis are two musicians I've found because of U2. First,
B.B. King, I've always enjoyed the blues, but I never really took the
time to actually listen to the music from any particular blues artist.
One day, I just decided to pick up an entire box set on B.B. King, and
you know what? It's pretty darn cool!!!! Especially a lot of his
earlier works.

Then there is Elvis...I remember growing up to Elvis (my mom loves
him). For some reason though I always saw Elvis as this guy with a bad
taste in suites, a beer belly and huge sideburns. The thought in my
mind was always the last part of Elvis's career. Then I found out U2
liked Elvis, which made me think, "No shit? Huh? Maybe there is more
to Elvis then I'm letting myself see." So I started taking interest in
t.v. specials about his life and listening to my mom's records. Elvis
was a pretty cool guy deep down. He had his problems, but then who
doesn't?

How about the book Picture of Dorian Grey (sp)? I personally have never
read the book, well I started, but it's just a bit slow for me. I
remember as a child I saw the movie on the Public Access channel or
something, and it completely fascinated me. It also freaked me out, but
it was still good. I really wish I could find a copy of that movie.
I've seen it twice in my life and would like to see it again. Can
anyone help me out?

Wings of Desire, only saw the movie because I read about it on Wire and
I wanted to find out what the heck everyone was talking about. Watching
the movie I wondered when it would end, but afterwards it made me
think. Now I want to rent it again.

OK, now the things that I've attempted to get into but just couldn't.
William S. Burroughs, I think I'd have to be on an acid trip or drunk to
read "Naked Lunch", talk about a tripped out book. The entire
Passenger's thingy, listened to the CD once, waaay to artsie for me.
The first few songs are all right, but it's definitely something that is
going to have to grow on me.

In any case, I guess U2 has opened my mind to some things, but really
it's Wire who's opened my mind to a lot. I'm not a well educated person
or hip to what's going on in the world of art, music or whatever.
Whenever there is a topic discussed on Wire that I'm not familiar with,
I normally check it out through other resources so I can become familiar
with it. I'd really like the opportunity just to hang out with U2, have
a few beers and learn some more about them. (But then wouldn't we all?)
They seem like interesting guys.

I don't take everything they do, say, preach, play, read, write, etc.
to heart. I do have a mind of my own. But if I happen to come across
something that I may have read about on Wire or read somewhere else I
might check it out.

Anyways, that's all.........

Kristen <-------Wishing everyone a great New Year's!!!!!!!!!!!
