Boyzone & Dreams...

Hi WireWorld,

I can't get into Zoonation's Popmart archive due to heavy traffic, so I
thought I'd write to Wire to pass the time, maybe I'll be able to get in
there later. There's been a couple of topics that have caught my eye
just recently, so I may as well provide my "two pennoth".
I can't actually remember the chap who said it, but a couple of
days ago I read a post condemning Bono's choice of Boyzone as the next
"Big Thing". Personally, I have to agree with the aforementioned bloke.
To me, Boyzone mean absolutely nothing. Apart from Ronan Keating, the
only member who actually appears to have the subtle combination of a
brain and a voice, Boyzone are simply a "Boy Band". To my knowledge,
none of them can play an instrument, which isn't exactly a positive
point in my book, and their audience is very "specialised". By
"specialised" I mean teenage females.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking either Boyzone or their
fans, but to make it big you have to possess a sound that a broad
age-range can appreciate, and talent doesn't normally go astray.
Technically speaking, I suppose that they have lasted a reasonable
amount of time for what they are, but they obviously won't stand the
test of time like the true greats have, bands such as U2 (obviously),
REM and the Rolling Stones. In my opinion, if Bono were to hand the
torch down to Boyzone (and I hope that day doesn't come for many a year
yet), the only thing that I can see happening is that they will drop it,
very quickly indeed.
There's been a lot of talk (no pun intended) about dreams as
well just recently. I've had maybe six or seven U2 dreams in all,
generally speaking, and a couple of them make me smile when I think of
them. A couple of weeks ago I dreamt that I was the front-man of U2
(Bono who?) and that we were playing a gig in Toronto. The basic deal
with the dream was that before each song I would dedicate it to a person
that I know and love, with each song reminding me of that person for one
reason or another. I won't bore you with specifics, but I imagine that
somebody on this list knows who I dedicated "One" to...
The other dream was really quite bizarre. I dreamt that I had
got in contact with Bono (don't ask me how) and arranged to meet him in
my home town of Derby (which is situated in the middle of England, for
any of the uninitiated). Basically, over the course of the day we
travelled from pub to pub, discussing life, love and everything else
that we could think of. Like I said, pretty weird, but it was cool
nevertheless.

Anyway, that's more than enough from me for now. I'll go back under the
water now, lurking...
