I responded to Patricia personally about this, but thought
I'd send a post to WIRE too.

SoundScan *DOES* consider internet sales in their calculations.

I have to be honest, I don't know exactly how SoundScan
does all of their calculations (they seem a bit secretive of
them), but from what I do know, they get numbers from
select stores (based on actual scanned purchases) which
include internet markets. From this, SoundScan
then estimates sales for the entire country.

SoundScan stated that they altered their method of gathering
data, but they failed to say what that alteration was. All
that was mentioned was that the numbers went up for
most artists. If anyone has more information on SoundScan,
please share it! Thanks!
