Hi there friends,

It may be of no interest to others but i thought it was about time to share
my introduction to U2 story with others that care.
It was christmas time 1980 and as usual my mother had given my siblings and
i some oney to buy presents for eaach other with (I was only 10) and i
asjked my oldest brother what my second oldest brother would like. Being a
musically orientated family i knew it would be an album (Made of lovely
glossy vinyl.....Mmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!). Anyway as you have probab;y guessed he
suggested i by BOY by a newish band called U2. I duly went out and bought it
and, as everybody does, i listened to it before i wrapped it up. Was in for
a treat, i heard the most brilliant debut album that i had ever heard (or
ever have come to think of it) and i had to buy another copy straight away.
My brother liked the album but did not conmtinue his flirtation with the
band. Unlike me. I went on to buy every single thing i could find, even down
to the numbered edition of U23 on 12". I used to scour the record fairs and
up until the release of pride when just about everybody got involved in the
band, things were not too pricey or difficult to get hold of.All that has
since changed and you cant get hold of rarities for love nor money.
I first saw them in 1985 at Milton Keynes bowl and it blew me away. What a
day. I got cold and wet and i was covered in mud but it was worth every
ounce of discomfort. When they played Party Girl myself and a friend just
grabbed these two girls and danced with them. We were smiling our faces off
and at the end of the song we said thankyou and left it at that. We were
right in front of adam clayton just about all the way through and then of
course when they came back on to do '40' The man they call the EDGE was
right in front of me. What a hero.

Anyway, i just wanted to share that. I hope somebody will find it
interesting.

Regards

Stuart Murphy
