U2 using satanic imagery???

U2 are not the kind of band to knowingly use
satanic imagery to sell.
The cross Bono holds upside down in R&H is more a
rebellion against
the ritualistic church movements that bicker and
argue with each other
than a "worshipping of satan".
True Christianity is from the heart, not just from
going to church.

As to Mr MacPhisto, he is a mockery of the devil.
Any of Bonos on-stage theatrics should be taken
somewhat tongue in cheek.
The meaning - as I see it - is that the devil has
been turned into a product by the
excesses and lavishness of the rock/pop music
industry.
(of course he could be interpreted a number of
ways)

U2's roots are Christian - but the warring church
factions (especially in Ireland)
would make the most devout follower cynical of
organised religion.
I believe this is where the protest is directed.

Lyrical evidence...
"...looking for to save my, save my soul..."
"...looking for to fill that God-shaped hole..."
"...still havent found what Im looking for..."
"...looking for baby Jesus, under the trash..."
"...it's been a while, since we saw that child,
    hanging 'round this neighbourhood..."
"...the battle yet begun - to claim the victory
Jesus won..."
"...you broke the bonds, loosed the chains,
carried the cross of my shame..."
"...Jesus never let me down,
You know Jesus used to show me the score,
Then they put Jesus in show business,
Now it's hard to get in the door..."
