yup. what you have there is the infamous Achtung Baby (sometimes called
Axtung Beibi) demo sessions.
Think of it as U2s musical scrapbook that they use to refine
songs, eventually ending up with the final versions we would
normally see on the CD albums.
someone, while they were writing songs for AB managed to copy the
session tapes, and have them released via bootleg channels.
i would imagine these recordings that were made available contributed to
the reason U2 has such tight security over its present day studio
sessions. Zooropa and Pop outtakes are currently unavailable.
(although i do have a genuine outtake of Pop Musik and Please).
Spotted the link between The Fly, and Light My Way (UV1) and Lady with the
Spinning Head?
yet? .. you should have done - especially where the Lady WTSH extended mix
is concerned.
Actually, all 3 of those Achtung baby songs stemmed from this one demo
on the outtake recording.
look for The Fly "middle bit guitar riff" (as i call it).
There are 3 different "areas" of this particular song.
UV1, UV2 and UV3. the bit they refined and finalised was called
"Lady WTSH (UV1)" (on U2s "One" CD Single) - because it stemmed from
the UV1 part of the "Wake Up Dead Man" on the demo recording.
well anyway - there you are.
check the wire ftp site - im pretty sure you'll find an FAQ or
.TXT document about this. its got a bit of information about
it. hunt it down! :)
