This is a test ... this is only a test (but do read)

Well, actually I was quite intrigued by what David and J and the others who
felt the need to comment on Patty's comment on the U2 -- Dublin/Ireland
association.

I asked my husband to tell me the first thing that comes to mind when I named
a city. I use him as a pretty good judgment of character because he has been
pretty much everywhere you can think of.

So here goes.

Chicago -- Windy City Pizza
Los Angeles -- Hollywood
Kansas City -- Western Auto Supply Co....
New York -- opera
Dublin -- U2
Moscow -- Russians
Belgium -- nazis
London -- ... Paris, Munich ...
Dallas -- rangers
Athens -- Plato
Paris -- rude people

What does all this mean? Well, to most of you not a lot ... It's just my
husband's opinion. Not to mention, the most unscientific study you have ever
seen, but let me settle some questions ...

Chicago -- Windy City Pizza
He's a big boy ... he likes to eat.

Los Angeles -- Hollywood
Actually his first answer was MOM ... But I asked him to change it
Family does not count.

Kansas City -- Western Auto Supply Co.
Well, if you asked me to say Atlanta I would say Delta. You do the
figuring there (Coca-Cola, CNN and Turner Broadcasting would apply too).

New York -- opera
Yeah they have opera there, but what about Wall Street ... Empire State
building ... "The Big Apple?"

Dublin -- U2
A man after my own heart (and patty's too) ... Yes, he is trained well.

Moscow -- Russians
Yep ... there ARE Russians in Moscow ... I looked it up!

Belgium -- nazis
Here is where some of you got confused ... He holds a degree in History
with a focus on European and Ancient History. He's pretty good at it ... and
I quietly laugh at you all when you get your "facts" messed up. (I had to
type
all the thesis papers -- free education!)

London -- ... Paris, Munich ...
Again ... is he trained well or what? New York, London, Paris, Munich!

Dallas -- rangers
Sadly, he likes to watch Walker, Texas Ranger.

Athens -- Plato
Okay ... so I can't recall if Plato was actually Athenian, but at least he
knows
he was in Greece. Been a while since I had to type his term papers.

Paris -- rude people
No offense Karine, or anyone else in France. But it is a thought amongst some
Americans that French people are rude. I can't make him think differently.

You can't tell a person they are wrong to think that U2 is the most famous or
influential thing to come of Ireland. It's not what most would say ... that
has nothing to do with it. It is your OWN perception. And to even reply to
Patty to say that her perception is wrong is not fair. Maybe the people Patty
is closely associated with are all involved in some way with U2 ...
speculation purely ... but again ... it's all in YOUR perception ...

And I noticed most of you listed only Poets, or physical landmarks as the most
famous thing in Ireland, but none of you mentioned the influence of the IRA,
the Slaughter's that occurred in Phoenix Park (or that this is NOT a place to
be after dark), the potato famine, or the great many other historical figures
(British or Irish). No, not the most pleasant thoughts in the world. But,
you will find someone who perceives this to be so.

In our little worlds that we live in U2 is dominant (or seems to be anyway --
who the hell else reads this shit every day)? Let Patty have her cake ... and
I'll let you have yours. Me? I'll take the icing ... it's much better anyway.

"Being one can be great, but respecting differences can be greater"
Bono in Belfast, August 26, 1997

I'm not one to run around quoting Bono, I leave that to Elena. But this is
the best thing I have ever heard come from someone's mouth.

I may not love you all ... but I respect your thoughts (unless you're a
complete idiot)!

Cynically (or not),
Shannon Carey-Thorpe
