Fox sports loves U2

well, Fox's pregame show has been on for only an hour and a half so far
(the actual pregame show, not counting the two hours of pre pregam crap
that was on earlier)

but already, three U2 songs have been used. Two of those uses indicate some
high level of thoughtfulness and intelligence on the part of the Fox sports
programming producers and directors.

At the introduction of the pregame show, they do this cheesy sequence with
some kid on the time machine from the movie based on the H.G. Wells book
Time Machine. He is going throug the century witnessing all the major
events of the last 100 years as the millenium nears its end, and when he
hits the 80s, "Bullet the Blue Sky" comes on. And it fits all the images
from the decade they showed perfectly.

of course, they blew the whole mood when the got to the late '90s and
juxtaposed Right Said Fred's "I'm Too Sexy" against footage of the Clinton.

Later, for a segment on Super Bowl XXIII (that's 23) and Joe Montana's
winning TD pass to John Taylor, they played the intro guitar segment to
"Where the Streets Have No Name"

They followed this up with a segment on one of the players from the
Cincinnati Bangles who was supposed to play in Super Bowl XXIII, but he was
found in his hotel room the night before in a cocaine induced stupor.
This segment was introduced with "Bad," a fitting pairing with a segment
about a man whose life was ruined by drug addiction.

of course, as I write this, there are still 2.5 hours left until game time,
so plenty more opportunities for U2 references :)
