Random Thoughts (Best "one", setlists, etc.)

1. Quite ironic that everyone's most acclaimed version of "One"
doesn't have Adam or Larry in it. It really isn't U2. But then
again, one of U2's best singles "Mission Impossible," which zoomed to
no. 7 in Billboard Top 40, doesn't have Bono and Edge in it. poetic
justice indeed.

2. While people may say the Popmart Mexico version is the most
emotionally-packed, I would tend to disagree. Mexico was four or five
shows after Hutchence died. Sydney must be more significant and
emotional since it was in his hometown in front of his band and
countrymen, or maybe perhaps the San Antonio version which came a day
after Hutchence's death.

3. I think it is hard to predict U2's live setlist selections. One
of U2's most famous concerts which was broadcast worldwide, New Years
1990, did not have With Or Without You. Who would have thought U2
would ever end their shows not using "40"?

4. What is really hard for me to swallow is that U2 (correct me if
I'm worng) have not yet missed playing Bullet The Blue Sky in every
night of every tour since Joshua Tree. They released a live version in
the R&H album, and included yet another live version in the "Stay"
single. That is simply overkill, and they could have chosen other
live tracks, since that song was already released live. Most U2 fans
have even confessed that the song is their "skip" song in Joshua Tree.
Believe it or not, U2 was even considering putting that song to the
Gh album (good they didn't!).

5. Since U2 would not tour stadiums or have a big tour, I expect a
smaller setlist. "Streets" is easily the highlight of Popmart but may
not fit in arena setting. AIWIY Popmart was a far cry from the
showstopping versions in LoveTown. I agree with the other post that
WOWY in Popmart seemed to be going through the motions. Larry didn't
even drum the first part and Edge didn't go to his meandering solo.
The Pop songs may get the axe except for Please and Discotheque (which
would look great in an arena setting transforming the whole place into
a Discotheque!). But then again, u2 is just so unpredictable in their
song selections so this is all specualtion at best.

6. A better thread may be, what song which they haven't played in a
while should they revive? The obvious answer for me is "Stay." It
might be interesting to see them pull of a real old song like Out Of
Control or 11 O Clock Tick Tock but that is highly unlikely. Bad
should be a reagular in the setlist and not just like Popmart which
had it played sparingly.

Cheers,

J
