The "NEXT U2" debate

Hi Wirelings,

While i tend to agree with "Pirate Bob" that the next big band to be on
the level of U2 will not come for a while longer, I must cast my vote
for Semisonic. And here's why...

They write songs with extremely solid, catchy melodies and deep yet fun
lyrics. They are upbeat and sincere (like U2), unlike Radiohead or the
Verve who are more dark and morose (both Radiohead and the Verve remind
me much more of REM for this reason than U2) I think if Semisonic
continues to write songs in the tradition of "Closing
Time," they could be the next big thing in the Beatles/U2 tradition.

By the way, what about Oasis? They are considered to be BIGGER than U2
throughout much of Europe, but just can't seem to catch on as well in
the USA. They difinitely deserve some recognition here, and I believe
even U2 suspects that Oasis will surpass them in "bigness" one of these
days.

Oh well...

What do you think?

Joseph
