>>>Well, this refers to an incident that happened in Mexico before the
show. The Mexican president's son wanted to get backstage and when a
member of the U2 crew asked him where were they going, who they were,
etc. Apparently, some of the kid "bodyguards" attacked this U2 crew
member and beat him up. <<<

I was about ten feet away when this happened. When the First Son (heh)
arrived, nobody knew he was coming, or who he was, or that he was even
supposed to be there. Local security was crap, so it's no surprise they got
in without anyone really figuring out why they were there. Anyway, the son
and his bodyguards (who resembled mafia hit men) ended up somewhere they
weren't supposed to be, where all the electrical equipment and stuff was,
and Jerry Meltzer, normally Adam's bodyguard, stepped in to see what was
going on. No one is really clear on what exactly transpired, but the story
I got was that he made a move to escort the son away, and the bodyguards
flipped out and cold-cocked Melzter with the butt of his pistol. Nearby
roadies and riggers literally leapt to his aid, and the bodyguard was
forcibly ejected from the stadium. Meltzer meanwhile was taken away in an
ambulance, recieved about five stitches and went home to Arizona to
recuperate before the Seattle show.

>>>It was quite a serious thing, since they considered cancelling the show. <<

I don't think canceling the show was ever an option -- Meltzer did recieve
a superficial headwound but it wasn't something that would have stopped the
tour. I didn't hear any buzzings about cancellations at all from the crew
or anyone. Anyway, if you look closely at the beginnig of the video, the
bodyguards are all wearing black armbands for their fallen comrade.

Anyway, that's the story. :)
