To be honest, I have to disagree with what Rob said. I actually think
that, with the evidence of the Mix it or Nix it contest, U2 has proven
that they are still one of the most popular acts around, in Toronto
anyway. Although U2 did not win by landslide, look at who they did
beat. they beat Alanis Morrisette. She had the largest selling disc of
1996(?) with about 24 million in sales. her new disc is one of the most
hotly anticipated discs of the year, as is this single. And, to top it
all off, she is CANADIAN! U2 is just off the heals of the supposedly
lacluster "POP" and "POPMART" tour. People aren't SUPPOSED to care
about this band, however, even when they don't get all of the support
they might have in the past, they still manage to beat out one of the
rock heavyweights (nb: I really don't like Alanis Morisette's music!!!)
U2 is in the pantheon of rock greats. Yes. However, they are still
smack in the face of mainstream music, and this victory proves that they
are still as popular as they were in theie 'hay-day'. All comments are
welcome either to WIRE or to my personal e-mail.

P.S. This is NOT a flame. these are merely my opinions.
