Hi Everyone,

For those who didn't see, this is what was published on Wire yesterday :

"I know from living there that there are plenty of Dubliners who would
not take kindly to the following comment that I'm going make - but so
be it. I love Dublin second only to my own hometown (Chicago) -- and
I've been all over the world to compare...

The truth is, the most famous thing that is most closely associated
with -Dublin- *is* U2. Paris has the Eiffel Tower, New York the
Empire State Building, London Big Ben, etc. Granted U2 is not a
physical landmark, but the most closely associated thing with Chicago
used to be gangsters and now thankfully it's Michael Jordan and the
Bulls. Same concept."

In The Name Of Love, Patty.

Well Patty, I'm not slagging you / flaming you , but your comments are out
of line!..........you would be right if you had said U2 were the most
closely associated with Dublin by people who read WIRE....but to say that
THE MOST FAMOUS THING associated to DUBLIN is U2 is almost
insulting...............now before people start flaming, I am a U2
fanatic.......have been for 19 years..........and certainly U2 are ONE of
the most famous "landmarks".....but what about: TRINITY COLLEGE
               The LIFFEY
                JAMES JOYCE
               GUINNESS BREWERY
PHOENIX PARK (largest city park in the world)
               ............our amazing pubs and nightlife

I could go on and on........sure to everyone reading this U2 is their
closest association with Dublin...but worldwide , from all ages it might be
different.

By the way just as a test I asked 5 workmates , what they most associated
with Chicago (where Patty's from), 3 said "Sears Building", 1 said "Michigan
ave" and 1 said "Soldiers Field"........not one said Chicago Bulls .

Not a flame.....just a reply
Dave
